Precautions About Teeth Whitening

by Pretty Teeth

Everybody wants to have perfect white teeth when they are smiling. But what if you have stained, or discolored set of teeth? Then maybe, you have planned to whiten your teeth, and teeth whitening procedures have come across your mind once or twice and if you are thinking of undergoing teeth whitening treatments? Or maybe, buying those teeth whiteners on the market? Before that, why don’t you check the following precautions and risks for teeth whitening first? Here are some things to remember:

ü  Avoid undergoing bleaching if you are still an adolescent as it may cause irritation of nerve roots. These roots are relatively closer to the surface beyond adulthood.

ü  If you have allergies or sensitive teeth or gums, be sure to consult with your dentist prior to using any teeth whitening products. Ensure that your case can be addressed by the products you are planning to use and make certain that the product is safe to use.

ü  Whitening products and procedures do not take effect on artificial teeth, crowns, fillings, and other restorations. If treatment does provide improvement, it will cause uneven whitening.

ü  People with gum disease, cavities, exposed roots, or worn enamels are not recommended to undergo whitening treatments. If you have cavities, treat them first before planning to have teeth whiteners because chemicals from whiteners may cause sensitivity. Teeth with exposed roots will gain no improvement with teeth whiteners as roots have no enamel layer.

ü   If your teeth are darkly discolored, discuss stronger and more appropriate methods for your problem.

ü  For pregnant women, bleaching is not recommended because of hormonal reason.

ü  After every whitening treatment, especially if you are doing it at home, rinse your mouth with water.

ü  Mouth trays used for whitening should well fit in your mouth to protect your gums and mouth from leakage of chemicals.

ü  Be aware of the proper concentrations of chemicals to be used in teeth whitening and be sure to follow these concentrations. Higher concentration may be unsafe for use.

These are just a few of the many things to remember before, during, and after having teeth whitening procedures. Teeth whiteners and treatments are safe but you still must take precautionary measures just to be sure.
